I met both him and his wife in Holland Park once. Lovely couple.
Good documentary with all the basic facts to keep it short, having said that if it told of what actually happened to the other crews, which is good to know to get the whole picture, as they were all lost in different circumstances (and some actually survived). The whole story is an epic one! I had the pleasure of meeting George Johnson and Fred Sutherland at quite a few Dambuster’s signings I attended and was a great experience meeting them! All sadly gone now R.I.P.
Thank you for this in depth interview with one of the most extraordinary actors and writers of our time. The upshot of episode 17 seems to be, “ I have met the enemy, the locus of evil, and it is me”.
Just great! You were in right place at right time with just the right gadget in your hand. But surely that is too much of a coincidence - you must have been sent there by Numbet One.
Superior fire power means nothing if is not use effectively . The lines had as much as 6 ft. gaps in their ranks , not as shown in Zulu Dawn ! The companies were spread out far as to be unable to support another company . The Zulu's also operated on the effects of a narcotic root . Like the Meth influenced Japanese soldiers , these warriors really saw red ! How else can a 70 year old Zulu general run 20 miles ? Jack Le Laine and Geritol ?
This should be the only way to use the road.
I'm sure this won't come as news to many here, but the movie ZULU DAWN (1979), starring Peter O'Toole and Burt Lancaster, is available for free on RUclips. As cinema, it's magnificent.
I wouldn't put too much stock in Isandlwana's solar eclipse. It was an annular one, so there was no totality, or anything near it. The afternoon's light was probably almost indistinguishable from that of an ordinary one.
17:47 the individual in revolt against the bureaucracy. Yes!
What a joy, these three programs have been. Alan Bennett may present himself as a cultural Christian, but he also offers an engaging, thoughtful, and deeply felt reaction to important aspects of the Christian faith. His ability to see beyond the obvious is inspiring. So too is the continuing contribution of many simple men, women and children to the life of the Abbey church. It’s interesting that even the vulgar and repetitive descriptions by the tour guides can’t subtract from what they are describing. Thank you, BBC, for sharing this.
Danke für das Einstellen auf RUclips! Leider habe ich sie nicht mehr live erlebt!
When he died, there was a tribute from a surprising source, Tony Benn: 'A very kindly man personally. But I think he'll be remembered as one of the few people nowadays who actually said what he thought. And from that point of view, the House of Commons will suffer from his loss.'
Patrick McGoohan finally escaped on January 13, 2009.
A truly hateful man
Thank you for uploading this to RUclips. Of the three episodes, this is the best. I also feel it is a tribute to the types of TV programmes that all the TV channels produced during the 1990s. Really stimulating, interesting and thought-provoking programmes that I don't feel are being produced these days (the 2020s). I asked my Mum what she thought of this, and she expressed her dismay at Alan's monologue during the choral evensong service. Despite that, it was a really good programme.

Wow, I forgot they filmed this. I was one of the boys in the choir. Must have been filmed in about 94/95.
Be seeing you. 👁️👌
Fabulous...Life as it should be.
Interesting variation on the theme music
I have always thought the Prisoner series was one huge mish mash of confusion; but notwithstanding all the conflicting mush, it somehow fell together in the same way perhaps as 'Casablanca'. It was the very fact that neither makers nor viewers could make head nor tail of it that gave it its magic. A movie Rohrschach ink test. The late 60s timing, the opening, the car, the location, the photography, the laughable and scary balloon all had a little serendipity about them. McGoohan's aggressive growling expression was passe half way through the first episode. But notwithstanding all the inconsistencies and cul de sacs, it made it into history. Well done Patrick (rip).
China ccp army is telling themselves they are at WAR with the WEST. They alloed with russia and iran against US. And you let them build critical energy infrastructure. Wow. Idiots
CHINA’S largest wind turbine firm is aiming to open its first European manufacturing plant in Scotland - despite concerns of Beijing’s growing involvement in key UK energy infrastructure. Mingyang Smart Energy is one of eight renewable energy firms which is aiming to provide equipment to wind farms in the North Sea and kick-start an offshore wind supply chain for Scotland. This is akin to letting hitlwr germany manufacture shit in your borders. A country that enploys slave labor. Shame on you
Majewski has studied the issue of recycling wind turbine blades. In a 2022 study, he and his colleagues predicted that, by 2050, when existing turbines reach the end of their 20 to 30-year lifespan, there will be tens of thousands of tonnes of wind farm blades that may need to go to landfill.
Just checked scotland news and YES CHINA made those turbines in your country. Pathetic shit. You are one step aaay from giving your sovereignty away. Youve allow chineae manufacturing plants inside your country. How fucking stupid
Inefficient bs. F your climate scam. This shit is killing whales and birds and the net benefit is NOT WORTH IT. Plus where did you source the parts for em....CHINA???!!!
What a fantastic documentary. Patrick was always such an interesting actor to watch in whatever he did.
On sent le perfectionnisme dans le travail de cet acteur .
I enjoyed that. I watched the original series when it came out. The ending was the weirdest ending on TV prior to Fade to Black on the Sopranos. It's a pity they didn't discuss the opening scenes and the theme music. The intro is the best ever to appear on TV IMHO.
Things got worse after Ronald Reagan' s Reagonomics.
I feel a big inspiration for The Prisoner" was the "Secret Agent/DangerMan" episode "Colony 3" about a spy school. Very good episode about a "village" that is a microcosm of the macrocosm of modern western society. The music is eerie but perfect.
I just watched the whole thing. It’s an amazing piece of history. I remember seeing the Prisoner when it was first run. I didn’t get the ending until I saw the Canadian interview a few years ago. This film is an amazing insight into the genius of the man.
I have to admit that prisoner ends up in the same category as the 2004 series " lost". To some it is a cerebral allegory for the vicissitudes of life. For others it is an arcane example of a script that has no end point and is made up as you go.
Was it a total Shit hole back then as it is now?? Fucking Dump 😅
I really regret watching this. Not good. Heavy handed. The brief Cansda interview with college fans in the audience was perfect.
The sound quality is very bad. Need a re shoot with better audio.
Well done Russell!
Including a date for this documentary might have been nice. But .I guess that kind of thinking is beyond your intellectual ability.
If you had watched this it says late 1983 air date 1984. This film was then released in 2017 based on the early interviews.
No other television show accurately predicted the distopian world that we live in today: constant surveillance, 15 minute cities, forced vaccines, AI, police states, non stop state propaganda, chemicals in everything we eat and drink, pharmaceuticals that make us more "mutual" and agreeable, etc... Brilliant doesn't even begin to describe this show.
Thanks for sharing this gem! 👍 I think McGoohan would be pleased how many people know and cherish The Prisoner. It was way ahead of its time, and had a lot of important messages, like choosing for yourself and keeping your moral compass intact. The surveillance aspect is another example; and anyone who asks questions being under suspicion.
Thanks, what a treat. Plus faces to go with credits I've watched since the original US airing. Much appreciated.
I was just 9-10 years old when I watched The Prisoner on ITV. It made a huge impression on me then: it excited and terrified me. I'm now 66, and I've just binge-rewatched all 17 episodes over the weekend. It still makes a huge impression on me! Indeed, the impression is far more profound than it was back then, because -- like all of us -- I have become fully and painfully aware of how much the individual in society has become subjected to surveillance, control and manipulation, often for sinister purposes. The Prisoner was/is an utterly unique, groundbreaking and astounding art work that challenges one's perceptions in many different ways and on numerous levels. It has a nightmarish quality and intensity that defies rational explanation and triggers the deepest emotions. In my case, it set in motion a process that culminated in my becoming extremely distrustful of so-called 'authorities' and, indeed, society and humanity in general. It was the height of The Cold War, and The Prisoner resonated with one's deepest existential fears. I think it is fair to say that The Prisoner was -- and still is -- the most compelling, gripping and important drama ever broadcast. McGoohan was a very deep thinker, a visionary of great prescience, and a tremendous actor of rivetting intensity and stirring presence. As Number 6, he moves like a panther. It is easy to relate to his epic struggle to maintain his high values, free spirit, autonomy, independence and individuality against the odds, under tremendous and incessant pressure from visible and hidden enemies who wish to break him, to crush his very soul. As Number 6, he inspires us to uphold and fight for the purity and greatness in ourselves!
poor wife
Even in these brief clips you get a sense of his “presence”.
Catherine Mcgoohan is a treat, isn’t she? Bless her for sharing her love of her father with us all.
😂 what absolute PIF load of bloody rubbish 😱😲🙄
